TIRUPATI: President Droupadi Murmu offered prayers to Lord Venkateswara at the Tirumala temple in the early hours of Monday. This is her maiden visit to the state of
Andhra Pradesh and Tirumala in her official capacity.
President Murmu was extended a traditional welcome at the Mahadwaram of the hill temple by Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) chairman YV Subba Reddy, EO AV Dharma Reddy, state endowments department principal secretary Anil Kumar Singhal, temple priests and other officials.
After she offered prayers to Lord Venkateswara inside the sanctum sanctorum, the President of India was led to the Ranganayakula mandapam, where the Vedic scholars rendered Vedasirvachanam blessings on Murmu and the TTD Chairman and EO offered the temple's prasadams, their coffee table book and the temple's 2023 new year calendars and diaries.
Earlier, the president also offered prayers to Bhu Varaha Swamy before heading to the Tirumala temple as per the customary practice.
Union tourism minister G Kishan Reddy, state ministers and officials were present with her.
