First freight transportation from Gati Shakti terminal near Paradip station
BHUBANESWAR: After completion of a freight terminal near Paradip station under the Centre's Gati Shakti initiative, Railways ran the first freight train from this terminal on Monday and transported fertilisers from this port town.
The first Gati Shakti Multimodal Cargo Terminal (GCT) over the East Coast Railway (ECoR) was commissioned near Paradip station by Container Corporation of India Limited (CONCOR), on the basis of demand from industry and potential of cargo traffic.
First freight train under the Gati Shakti project was loaded by Indian Farmer Fertilizer Corporation limited (IFFCO). A total of 3,774 tonnes of fertilizers were transported from Paradip to Nakaha Jangal in Uttar Pradesh.
Keeping the Prime Minister’s vision of Gati Shakti, the railway ministry has launched Gati Shakti Multimodal Cargo Terminal’ (GCT) to boost investment from industry in development of additional terms for handling rail cargos. The GCTs are being developed by private players on non-railway land or fully/partially on railway land for handling rail cargos.
The key features of the Gati Shakti Cargo Terminal are a simplified application and approval process, removal of departmental charges and no land licence fees on the railway land used for connectivity. All types of commodities including coal and coke can be transported under GCTs.
