BJP reminds Rahul of loan waiver promise
Jaipur: BJP state co-in-charge Vijaya Rahatkar on Sunday called Congress leader Rahul Gandhi a “factory of false promises” while challenging him to first fulfil all the promises the party had made to the people of Rajasthan and then set foot on “the holy land of Rajasthan”.
“Rahulji, you should recall that your counted 1 to 10 in a public address before elections and announced that farmers’ loans would be waived off, but you failed to fulfil those promises to date,” said Rahatkar at a press conference at BJP’s state headquarters here.
Accusing the Congress government of being “cruel to the people”, Rahatkar said the Ashok Gehlot government pretends to be a false supporter of farmers. “For the last four years, farmers of the state have been suffering due to debt, shortage of fertilizers, urea, lack of electricity supply, compensation for excessive rains, and non-procurement of crops at MSP, all of which have made them miserable,” she said.
Rahatkar said a farmer named Sohanlal Kadel, of Sriganganagar district, committed suicide because of debt overload and no support from the government. “The Modi government at the Centre is pro-farmer. It has released 12 lakh metric tonnes of urea for Rajasthan. The government here did not lift it on time in a display of insensitivity,” she added.
BJP state president Satish Polonia released a video earlier in the day, urging Congress leader Rahul Gandhi to fulfil the promise of waiving farmers’ loans before entering Rajasthan. He asked Gandhi if he was not aware of his party’s government in the state continuing to disregard an announcement that he had himself made. “Rahul Gandhi should respond as to why his party has not fulfilled the promise and why they cheated the people of the state,” said Poonia.
Poonia blamed Congress for Saturday’s shooting incident in Sikar, in which gangster Raju Theth was killed and an innocent man going to drop his daughter to a coaching institute also lost his life. “Law and order have gone for a toss in the state,” he said.
