Muslim women should not fight elections: Shahi Imam of Ahmedabad’s Jama Masjid

Shahi Imam of Ahmedabad’s Jama Masjid Shabbir Ahmed Siddiqui has sparked a row with his misogynistic comments. The Imam says that Muslim women should not fight elections as they would have to interact and speak with other men. He also said the Islam bars women from attending namaz in mosques only to avoid contact with other men. Hence any activity that requires speaking to men who are not part of their family. He also claimed that if women fight elections, it will weaken the Muslim community’s fight on hijab issue.
