HYDERABAD: A 15-year-old tribal girl was found dead in her home in mysterious circumstances at Rajapur village in Mahbubnagar district on Saturday. Soon after her parents expressed doubts and suspected that their daughter might have been raped and murdered, angry villagers gathered in large numbers and set the house and vehicle of a suspect on fire.
Following a complaint by the parents, Rajapur police registered a case under section 302 (murder) of IPC. Police said they were waiting for the post-mortem examination report to ascertain if the girl was raped.
On Saturday, when her parents came back home, they found it was locked from inside. When they forcefully opened the door, they found their daughter hanging from the ceiling.
Police, who were busy making bandobust arrangements for CM K Chandrasekhar Rao's visit to the district on Sunday, rushed additional forces to the village to control the situation. Police said an uneasy calm prevailed in the village after the news of the girl's death spread like a wild fire.
During the investigation, police came to know that the girl was reportedly in a relationship with a villager. Some neighbours, who saw the man in a compromising position with the girl, had even warned him, police said.
"The girl's parents who were away spoke to her over phone and reprimanded her. But, by the time they reached home, they found her dead," a senior police official said.
