Ludhiana: Cracking down on illicit liquor distillation in the district, the excise department, on Friday, seized and destroyed 37,000 litres of lahan (illicit liquor) near the banks of the Satluj river. Dr Harsimrat Grewal, assistant commissioner, excise said, “Today, a search operation was carried out at Satluj River bank near Majara Kalan, Rajapur and Bholewal Jadid. Around four kilometre area along the river bank was searched by excise inspectors Harjinder Singh and
Mandeep Singh, along with excise police and supporting staff.”
Dr Grewal added that around 37,000 litres of lahan was found during the search. The stash, which was unclaimed, was destroyed on the spot. Other recoveries included two big iron drums, plastic cans, pipes, approximately 70 kg wood and other material used for illegal distillation.
