MUMBAI: A 43-year-old man lost Rs 1.08 lakh after he tried to withdraw money from his wife's account at a Borivli ATM. The complainant told the police that the ATM card got stuck in the card slot and a man standing behind him in the queue may have misused it. Borivli police registered an FIR.
The complainant works as a senior officer with a private healthcare company. On December 1, he reported to his workplace in Borivli. Around 12.30 pm, he headed to an ATM kiosk nearby to withdraw money using his wife's debit card. He entered the PIN and was waiting to withdraw cash but the card wouldn't emerge from the machine. "An unknown man waiting behind me in the queue had been observing while I was keying in the PIN. When my wife's card got stuck, this man advised me to approach the bank and seek help," the complainant told the police.
While he was in the bank, he received text alerts on the phone number linked to the debit card regarding Rs 2,0000 being deducted four times from his wife's bank account. Later, he received a message about the card details being used for purchasing footwear worth Rs 8,000 from a Borivli outlet.tnn
