JAIPUR: Five suspects held for beating a 40-year-old businessman in full public view last month were paraded for “inspection” of the spot verification amidst a tight security cover in Kardhani on Thursday.
The accused, Sagar Singh, Nagar Singh, Jitendra, Bhupendra and Ajay were taken to the spot where they gathered for the recce. The accused were then moved for the spot verification where they had beaten Vijendra Singh on November 9. He was transported to the hospital where he succumbed to injuries.
The accused had thrashed Singh in full public view mercilessly even as locals locked themselves indoors. The police a few days later arrested the accused and found that several businessmen in the city were on the gang’s radar. The police claimed on Friday that the accused were allegedly involved in a string of criminal activities. The police maintained the accused were moved on the street solely to examine the events as they unfolded that day.
“The accused had conducted a recce of Singh for nearly one km. They then intercepted his SUV and dragged him out before beating him with sticks,” said an official.
The murder was meticulously planned, and the accused had rented rooms to take shelter after the crime. Police also discovered that the accused planned to attack Singh on multiple occasions, but finally attacked him when they found the timing conducive.
