MANGALURU: The Mangaluru city crime branch (CCB) police has foiled a jewellery robbery bid in Thokkottu, by arresting nine members of the interstate Sahebganj gang.
The CCB team succeeded in arresting the members of the gang, that has been engaged in jewellery and bank robberies across the nation. The team also seized equipment the gang stored, to execute their plans to commit a robbery, at a jewellery shop in Ullal police station limits.
City police commissioner N Shashi Kumar said that the police received a tip-off that members of the Sahebganj gang have been preparing plans to commit a robbery, at a house in Manchila near Thokkottu. "We received information late on Thursday, that the Sahebganj gang has been hatching a conspiracy to rob a jewellery shop in Thokkottu. Hence, a CCB team led by inspector Mahesh Prasad swung into action, and arrested nine members of the gang," he said.
The arrested accused are Bhaskara Belchappada,65, a resident of Kanyana in Bantwal, Dinesh Rawal alias Sagar,38, of Jainpur taluk of Kailali in Nepal, Mohammed Jameel,29, from Rajmahal taluk of Sahebganj in Jharkhand, Inzamum Ul Haq, 27, from Manikpara, Pakur district of Jharkhand, Bista Roop Singh,34, from Sukhad Sadepani, Kailali, Nepal, Krishna Bahadur Bogati,41, from Achham, Nepal, and Imdadul Razak Sheikh, 32, Bivul Sheikh, 31, and Imran Sheikh, from Sahebganj in Jharkhand. The CCB team successfully foiled the bid of the gang to rob the jewellery from a shop at Thokkottu, the commissioner said.
The gang members had arrived in Mangaluru by train 15 days ago, and were staying in a lodge at Thokkottu. Later, they were preparing plans to rob Super Gold and Diamonds jewellery shop using gas cutter, oxygen cylinder, gas cylinder, gas cutting nozzle, cutting hose, pipe, leather hand gloves, iron rod, sword, hacksaw blade, hammer, screwdriver, chilli powder and nylon rope. The total value of the seized items is Rs 2.9 lakh. A case has been registered at the Ullal police station, he said.
In fact, the city police were searching for accused in three separate assault and two-wheeler theft cases reported in Konaje and Ullal police station limits. The gang had robbed the two-wheelers after assaulting local residents, with an aim to use the vehicles to commit the crime. The police also seized three two-wheelers from the accused.
Bhaskara Belchappada, Dinesh Rawal, Inzamam Ul Haq, Bista Roop Singh and Krishna Bahadur Bogati were booked in several cases, including bank and jewellery robberies, at various police stations in Mumbai, Pune, Surat, Madhav Nagar in Madhya Pradesh, Thrissur in Kerala and Punjab. Sub-inspectors Rajendra B and Pradeep TR, and assistant sub-inspectors Shashidhar Shetty, Mohan KV and Harisha P were involved in the mission, the commissioner said.
