ULHASNAGAR: An FIR has been registered against Omi Kalani, son of former MLA Pappu Kalani, for allegedly demanding ransom of Rs 50 lakh from BJP's ex-corporator Rajesh Vadhrya in Ulhasnagar Township of Thane district.
Kalani, however, claimed the case registered against him is false and baseless.
As per the FIR, the complainant Dhiren Vadhrya, son of Rajesh Vadhrya, constructed a ground-plus three storey building named Krishna Niwas in Nehru Chowk area, which according to the complainant, has been constructed after taking all the permissions and has sought permission from the Town Planning Department to pass the revised plan for the additional of two floors.
According to the complainant, in the midst of all this, the Kalani family has complained about their building to the Town Planning department saying that our building is illegal. Amidst all this, according to the complaint, on Thursday, a person from Kalani's office came into building and started giving a letter in the name of Omi Kalani's letterhead to the customers who bought in the shop in our building saying that constructed building is illegal and action can be taken anytime.
Dhiren alleged in complaint that when he got information and after reaching at spot asked the unidentified man distributing letter, he asked the complainant to tell his father (Rajesh Vadhrya) that he should give Rs 50 lakhs to Omie Kalani or else he will get constructed building demolished.
However when asked over issue Omie Kalani said, "In plan of the building, Vadhrya has shown parking in the basement, while in reality there is no basement at all in building, that is why i issued the letter to inform the customers about the illegal building so that they should aware. In whose anger Vadhrya got false FIR registered on me".
Kalani family is associated with NCP and Omie's wife Pancham Kalani is District president of NCP.
An official from Ulhasnagar said, "In this case we have registered an extortion case against two including Omie Kalani and one unidentified person and further probe is on".
