MYSURU: The Karnataka Exhibition Authority (KEA) has proposed to develop Mysuru Haat on the lines with Dilli Haat in Delhi. It has approached the Mysuru district administration seeking directions to allow all kinds of consumer and other fairs only at the exhibition grounds located in the heart of the city.
KEA has also decided to approach the education department to make a visit to Cauvery River gallery mandatory during school tours to Mysuru.
According to KEA sources, it has been proposed to develop the Dasara Exhibition grounds at an estimated cost of Rs 350 crore under the Center’s Swadesh Darshan initiative. The target is to make the exhibition grounds another tourist attraction for all tourists who visit the palace and other sites.
Presently only locals are visiting the ongoing Dasara exhibition, and tourists who visit the palace are not showing interest. Hence, KEA has proposed to develop the exhibition with newer attractions, said sources.
KEA chairman Mirle Srinivasa Gowda said a proposal to allow exhibition activities 365 days a year between 10am and 10pm was also sent to the state government. “Presently the exhibition is permitted only for three months. But we want year-long activities,” he said.
“We also approached the district administration seeking permission for all kinds of exhibitions, fairs, only at the exhibition grounds. The state government has released Rs 3.5 crore to the authority for various developmental works. A proposal in this regard will be sent soon,” he said.
Letters to DDPIs
There has been poor response to the ambitious Cauvery River gallery - “Cauvery- the lifeline” located inside the exhibition ground. According to KEA authorities, only a handful of visitors are visiting this gallery. “We are writing to all the DDPIs to ensure that students who visit Mysuru as part of school tour programmes will visit the gallery which is highly informative in nature. This gallery is very helpful for students to understand rivers, their importance, river ecology etc,” said Gowda.
