70-year-old dies in hit-&-run in Pimpri Chinchwad

PUNE: A 70-year-old pedestrian died after a light commercial vehicle knocked him down at Phulenagar in Chinchwad on Wednesday noon.
After hitting the victim, identified as Suryakant Jagtap of Chinchwad, the vehicle dashed two motorcycles and halted after crashing into a grocery store along the road. The driver left the vehicle at the spot and fled, said police.
A 54-year-old woman running the store suffered injuries in the accident, said an officer from the Pimpri police. "We have launched a search for him," the officer said.
The officer said the victim suffered head injuries in the accident.
"Jagtap was taken to a nearby hospital and then shifted to the Yashwantrao Chavan Memorial Hospital in Pimpri, where he succumbed to his injuries during treatment," the officer added.
