Jaipur: Five months have passed but the committee formed by the Governor to investigate alleged ‘irregularities’ in the recruitment of teaching staff at Haridev Joshi University of Journalism and Mass Communication (HJU) is yet to submit its report.
The committee was formed to resolve the complaints received against the recruitment of visiting and adjunct faculties and was directed to complete the report in a month’s time.
HJU is a project of CM
Ashok Gehlot who had announced it in 2012, but the previous
BJP government closed it in 2017. The university was revived by the present government in its first cabinet meeting in 2018.
Sources said allegations of lapses were levelled against then VC Om Thanvi resulting in the formation of a committee. “He (Thanvi) was not even called once by the committee to present his side of the story,” said a source, claiming that it shows the seriousness of the committee. Thanvi’s tenure was over in March. Even a letter by the governor in January directed him to stop the ongoing recruitment process citing that no VC can take a policy decision in the last three months of their career.
