Rohit Bhat named India disputes lead by Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer

He is qualified to practice in India, New York, England and Wales

Global law firm Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer has appointed Rohit Bhat as the firm's India disputes lead. Based in Singapore, his practice involves a combination of international commercial and investor-state arbitrations.

Bhat has several years of experience in advising Indian companies on their domestic and international disputes, and multi-national corporations on their cross-border disputes in India.

On his elevation, Nicholas Lingard, the managing partner, and head of the firm's Asia arbitration practice in Singapore commented, "Bhat has extraordinary talent and is active across our wide-ranging India disputes practice, spanning investment and commercial arbitration, strategic litigation management and investigations. We have fought many campaigns together in India and around the region and the world. I am confident that in his new leadership role, he will continue to deliver for clients involved in disputes with a nexus to India."

Arun Balasubramanian, the partner, and co-head of the firm's India practice noted, "Bhat has been an integral part of our cross-practice offering to global clients on their most challenging India-related transactional, dispute and investigation mandates. His new role will enable him to further enhance the firm's market-leading reputation for international legal advice on India matters."

A 2009 graduate of the University of Bangalore, Bhat has an MBL from the National Law School of India, University of Bangalore. He earned his LL.M. in International Business, Arbitration, and Constitutional Law from Harvard Law School in 2017.

Bhat practiced at the Indian bar and worked with the former Attorney General of India, KK Venugopal for several years. He served on the Indian government's Supreme Court panel of lawyers and appeared before the apex court and high courts in numerous cases. He joined Freshfields in 2018.

Bhat ranked as Future Leader in Who's Who Legal's global guide and as National Leader for Singapore in Who's Who Legal's Southeast Asia guide.
