Housing complex for MLAs loaded with luxuries

Jaipur: From a centrally located park to a large swimming pool, from private offices to individual servant rooms, the amenities being added to the upcoming MLA Awashan at Vidhayak Nagar in Jaipur will not be just a living space for the state’s lawmakers. The residential compound will have all the modern facilities a luxury complex possess. Perhaps even more.
“We will be completing the project by June 2023. This is going to be one of the most luxurious residential complexes for MLAs in the country, if not the most,” said housing commissioner Pawan Arora.
The project was announced by CM Ashok Gehlot in the Assembly on July 27, 2019. The cabinet sub-committee approved it on August 11, 2021, and Rajasthan Housing Board (RHB) was appointed the nodal agency for the 160-flat complex.
All the 160 flats in the project coming up on 24,000 square metres will be 4BHK types, each measuring 4,375 sqft. One of the four bedrooms will be a guest room having a double bed, a study table, a television set, and other items like in a hotel room. All other rooms of the flats will be furnished with modern amenities.
There will be separate accommodation for domestic helps and chauffeurs of the MLAs and their families. “Presently the family members of most MLAs do not live with them in the government accommodations because many facilities are not available in those old houses,” said an RHB official.
Apart from the spacious flats, the complex will also have individual offices for all MLAs living there. There will also be a fully equipped club, a swimming pool, a coffee shop, a gymnasium, a yoga centre, a mini theatre and even a restaurant in it.
However, out of the total 199 MLAs, only the 160 ‘lucky ones’ will get to live in this complex.
“It will not be a big problem. Although there are 199 MLAs, there are accommodations for ministers at Gandhi Nagar and Civil Lines. After this new complex is ready, surely the ruling party’s MLAs will be in a dilemma over what to choose – ministership or an accommodation in this compound as just an MLA,” said an RHB official.
