Trader injured in broad daylight robbery, loses lakhs in seconds
Ludhiana: A trader dealing in multiple businesses was injured in an attack by seven armed miscreants at Seekhewal road on Wednesday morning. The miscreants ran away with Rs 2 lakh and 8-10 mobile phones kept in a bag by the trader who had his shop-cum-flat in the area.
Police officials said besides dealing in mobile phones, the trader, identified as Dimmy, was also into money exchange business, which is why he always kept a large amount of cash with him. As per the daily routine, he had come downstairs to open his shop on Wednesday morning and put a bag of cash on the stairs while lifting the shutters. Seven miscreants, who were wearing masks, launched an attack from the rear, taking the trader by surprise.
Police officials said the miscreants attacked the businessman with a sword, but somehow he survived. After injuring the businessman, they ran away with the cash and 8 to 10 mobile phones kept in the bag.
Cops said the incident was captured on a CCTV camera. A complete footage of the incident has been handed over to the police. They said the miscreants had possibly done recce of the shop before the strike.
CCTV footage of the camera installed at a nearby shop showed miscreants attacking the trader with a sharp-edged weapon.
Police officials said miscreants carried out the crime in a matter of seconds and sped away on their motorcycles.
The trader told cops that he did not know the accused, but said the people of the area had seen the miscreants roaming in the area in the past few days.
ADCP Rupinder Kaur Sran along with cops from Daresh police station reached the spot and started a probe into the matter.
Daresi Police later booked the accused under Section 379B (2) (snatching) of Indian Penal Code.
ADCP Sran said they are trying to identify the accused. She added that the miscreants had their faces covered and hidden number plates of three two-wheelers, on which they had come to the spot.
Police officials said cops are scanning the CCTV footage to trace the accused persons. They added that the complainant lived on the first floor and had his shop on the ground floor.
