BMC launches street art & mural project
Bhubaneswar: The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Wednesday launched Stamp — a street art and mural project — on Wednesday as part of a wall painting drive in the city ahead of the Men’s Hockey World Cup in January.
Based on the theme of “A city should look as beautiful as its citizens want it to be”, the BMC received 300 entries on how to beautify walls with different themes. After some entries were selected, the BMC roped in 28 artists and provided them with painting kits and uniform. The artists were selected by Odisha Lalit Kala Akademi.
BMC mayor Sulochana Das also unveiled the logo of the project on Wednesday. At least 40 km of the main arteries will be covered with 12 themes.
The civic body said the objective was to reduce misuse of public space by urinating, garbage dumping, illegal advertisements and posters. The aim is also to create ethnic and local identity in cityscapes to help people connect with their history. It will also help visitors know about the glory of the city and state, officials said.
