MYSURU: Deputy commissioner K V Rajendra on Wednesday heard the issues and demands of the pourakarmikas in the city. He chaired a meeting which was attended by office-bearers of the Karnataka Pourkarmikara Sangha.
The civic workers leaders urged the officers to abrogate the roaster system of appointment of pourakarmikas, and to appoint pourakarmika on population basis with one civic worker for 700 people in the city. As the population of the city exceeds 10 lakh, they wanted to recruit more pourakarmikas without burdening the existing workers. They also wanted the government to provide jobs for the family member of a deceased pourakarmika worker.
They also appealed to build a G Plus model housing complex for all 158 pourakarmikas families at Malalawadi. The government must also regularise the services of over 250 pourakarmikas involved in door-to-door garbage collection. Rajendra promised to look into their demand after discussing with his higher officials. tnn
