Ponda: Trade union leader and convener of Goa Mining People’s Front, Puti Gaonkar, has warned the state government of a stir unless all sacked mining workers are reinstated
Gaonkar said that, after the closure of mining in 2018, former chief minister Manohar Parrikar had said that, in case the industry restarted, he would put a condition on the lessee to reinstate all the mining workers sacked after the closure of the sector. Even CM Pramod Sawant had reiterated this statement.
“However, some days ago, the directorate of mines said that mining lease holders would not have an obligation to induct sacked workers. But, those who get the lease will term it as transfer of lease and the workers are entitled for reinstatement under the law,” Gaonkar, who is president of the Goa Mazdoor Sangh (GMS), said.
