DHARWAD: Music lovers in Dharwad will have a three-day musical feast starting December 2. Bharateeya Sangeeta Vidyalaya and Sitar Ratna Samiti (Dharwad) will organize music concerts to commemorate the 68th death anniversary of Sitar Ratna Rahimat Khan, the founder of ‘Dharwad Gharana’ at Srujana Auditorium.
The curtains will be up on Friday at 5.30pm with Hindustani vocal recital by Onkar Nagarajrao Havaladar. He will be accompanied on tabla by Shridhar Mandre and on harmonium by Sameer Havaldar.
Rajendra Kulkarni will enthral the audience with his flute concert with Raghunath Nakod playing the tabla.
On Saturday, Hindustani vocalist Shashwati Chouhan (Pune) will start the session at 5.30pm with Shridhar Mandre accompanying her on tabla and Basavraj Hiremath on harmonium. This will be followed by a violin jugalbandi by Vidwan Nagaraj and Manjunath. Vidwan Jayachandrarao will accompany the duo on Mridangam and Rajendra Nakod on tabla.
Ustad Rayees Balekhan (Pune) will present a vocal recital on Sunday at 9.30am with Uday Kulkarni (tabla) and Guruprasad Hegde (harmonium) accompanying him. This will be followed by a Bharatnatya performance by Vidushi Priya Ganesh, Vidwan Anilkumar, Avani and Shalomi of Bengaluru.
The evening session will start at 5pm with Shivamogga’s Noushad and Nishar Harlapur’s presentation of vocal jugalbandi. Ustad Nissar Ahmed will play the tabla while Basavaraj Hiremath will accompany on harmonium.
After this, Ustad Rafeeq Khan (Mangaluru) and Satyendra Solanki (Bhopal) will enthral connoisseurs with a Sitar and Santoor jugalbandi with Rajendra Nakod playing the tabla.
The curtains on the three-day extravaganza will come down with Pandit Krishna Bhat of Mumbai presenting a vocal recital. Raghunath Nakod (tabla) and Guruprasad Hegde (harmonium) will accompany him.
Established in 1932 by Sitar Ratna Rahimat Khan, the Bharateeya Sangeeta Vidyalaya has been rendering yeomen service to the cause of music in the region. It has the credit of popularizing Sitar in South India by training thousands of youngsters and keeping the rich musical tradition of cultural hub Dharwad by organizing several music programmes. It has provided a platform not only to the top artistes but also to the younger ones to exhibit their talent.
