Varanasi: Renowned economist and author S Gurumurthy on Wednesday termed the ongoing Kashi Tamil Sangamam as an ultimate platform for learning and exchange of culture, lifestyle, business, and above all religion and spirituality.
Addressing a session on ‘Kashi
Tamil Nadu Trade School’ organised as a part of the Sangamam at the Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Trade Facilitation Centre (DDU-TFC), Gurumurthy expressed his gratitude towards Prime Minister for holding such an event.
Gurumurthy said that, India is not only bound by cord of spirituality, but also by virtue of trade, customs and traditions and quoted the famous writing of Bharatiyar—‘Let us switch to the wheat crop of river Ganga and the betel leaf of Kaveri’. Emphasizing on the commonality between ‘Kanjipattu’ of Tamil Nadu and Banarasi Silk, he said that the extent to which ‘Kanjipattu’ is popular and developed in Tamil Nadu is similar to that of Banarasi silk.
He said that
Mahatma Gandhi had written in his book ‘Hindu Swaraj’ in 1909 about the sacred river Ganga as the basis of unity of the country.
The sacred ‘Ganga Jal’ is a part of every household and such is the belief of people that they drink it and bath in the Ganga.
He urged the people to not associate with the ‘Kashi Tamil Sangamam’ with any political purpose.
