Ludhiana: City residents and businessmen are upbeat over the Centre’s decision to set up an international driver’s training institute at Doraha for the youth looking to work abroad as mechanics, truck drivers, and crane operators.
Upkar Singh Ahuja, president of Chamber of Industrial and Commercial Undertakings (CICU) said, “It is a matter of great pride for Ludhiana and
Punjab that north India’s first international driving institute has been approved to be built here. This facility will prove to be extremely helpful to the youth as it will give proper training to those who are unemployed and less-educated. After finishing the training here, they will be able to get jobs within India or even abroad as vehicle repairmen, truck and commercial drivers, and construction machinery operators.”
He said he was thankful to both state and Union governments for this initiative.
Model Town resident and bicycle manufacturer, Ajay Sehgal said, “Thousands of youth from Punjab every year try to get jobs in these sectors in countries like Canada because these pay highly. But since there is no proper training institute, they are unable to fulfil their dreams. Once this institute is ready, it will prove to be a booster for our youth as the training and certification of a government institute will easily help them getting jobs in other countries.”
Notably, on Tuesday the Punjab Government announced that it will set up north India’s first international driver’s training institute, in association with the Union ministry of skill development and entrepreneurship on 27 acres of land in Doraha on Ludhiana-Delhi national highway.
The institute will give training to 3,600 youths for light and heavy commercial vehicles, heavy equipment operators, and mechanics in a year. It was also announced that those candidates who have passed Class-10 will be trained and support will also be given to obtain an international licence.
