PATIALA: The police on Tuesday arrested all the four accused in Rs 17.85 lakh UCO bank robbery case. Among the arrested four is the sarpanch of Hafizabad village in Chamkaur Sahib subdivision of Ropar district.
The district police, later, also claimed to have recovered Rs 17 lakh looted from the accused, a 12 bore gun, two cartridges and a car used in the crime.
Police officials said the accused sarpanch, identified as Amandeep Singh, was the mastermind of Ghanaur bank robbery on Monday and had looted a bank in Khamano of Fatehgarh Sahib earlier. He was already booked in six separate cases in Ropar and Fatehgarh Sahib districts, they said.
The other arrested accused have been identified as Dilpreet Singh alias Bhana, Prabhdial Singh and Narinder Singh, all from Ropar district.
According to cops, Amandeep, with his face covered, was the first to enter the bank around 3.35pm on Monday and had asked about the cash deposit time. He left the bank but returned two minutes later along with his two armed accomplices.
They looted the cash from the cashier and managed to snatch the key of a customer's bike. They locked the staff inside a cabin and fled on the customer’s bike, which they later abandoned and escaped in their car in which their fourth accomplice was already waiting for them. Patiala’s senior superintendent of police (SSP) Varun Sharma, said, “We had immediately formed three separate teams to nab the accused. Further investigations are on.”
