India has at least 70 lakh burn cases annually and some 1.4 lakh people die of burn injuries every year – that’s one death every four minutes due to burns. An additional 2.4 lakh end up with severe deformities or disfigurement. Not just that, burn survivors, with scars, can also suffer from emotional trauma, financial distress, vocational challenges and social exclusion. A majority of burn cases are women and children. Against these accident numbers, India only has 17 skin banks and rare donors. Head to TOI+ for a detailed report: bit.ly/3Ueig7U
