Kalaburagi: The security officer of Central University of
Karnataka (CUK) allegedly assaulted a student on Monday night.
Sources in CUK said the incident happened when a student from Kerala tried going out of the university campus on his bike. “When security officer Shivanand Koli stopped him from going out, a heated argument broke out between them. When the student asked the officer whether there was any circular restricting students, another student started videographing the argument. Irked by this, Shivanand assaulted the student videographing the incident,” they added.
Following the incident, a group of students rushed to the residence of CUK vice-chancellor prof Battu Satyanarayana and complained against the security officer. The VC conducted a meeting with students and security officers. The issue was resolved by Tuesday evening.
Registrar Basavaraj Donur said that he has spoken to Shivanand, and is also in touch with the students. “There was no assault as such — it was just an argument. It’s an internal affair of the varsity, and we have resolved it. Varsity is committed to protecting all its students,” he added.
