Lucknow: 6 killed, 13 injured as bus, truck collide in Bahraich

LUCKNOW/BAHRAICH: At least six persons were killed and 13 injured when a UPSRTC bus collided head-on with a truck moving on the wrong side of the road in Bahraich around 6.45am on Wednesday.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed grief over the loss of lives in the accident and directed the administration to ensure proper treatment for the injured persons.
According to police, the UPSRTC bus (UP85AH 9044) was going from Lucknow to Bahraich when a truck (UP 21BN 6042) coming from the wrong side collided head-on near Tappesipah village water tank at Jarwal Road.
Superintendent of police, Bharaich, Prashant Verma, said the passengers were taken out from the mangled bus and the injured persons were rushed to different hospitals.
“Those with minor injuries were provided first aid and arrangements were made to send them to their destination. On the basis of preliminary investigation, an FIR has been registered. We are looking into every aspect while the UPSRTC will examine the fitness of the bus,” he said.
District magistrate, Bahraich, Dinesh Chandra said, “Prima facie, the accident took place as the truck was coming from the wrong side. The search for the truck is on. Police are scanning CCTV cameras installed at nearby dhabas to identify the truck.”
The deceased were identified as Vipin Kumar Shukla (21), Ajit Biswas (27) of West Bengal, Om Singh (35) of Etawah, Anoop Vishwakarma (20) of Nepal and Aris (17) of Moradabad.
Om Prakash, a passenger whose wife and son sustained grievous injuries, told TOI, “I was asleep while my wife had our son in her lap when the accident took place and he fell on the floor."
Dhaniram from Rajasthan said, “The bus stopped with a sudden jerk due to which I fell down. My wife’s head hit against the seat in front of her due to which she fell unconscious.”
“We tried to stop other vehicles for help but got no response,” said Vishal, another passenger.
