Rajkot: A video message of cricketer Ravindra Jadeja’s father Aniruddhsinh Jadeja appealing people to vote for Congress on the Jamnagar North seat went viral on Tuesday. The video assumes significance in view of the fact that Ravindra’s wife Rivaba is contesting from Jamnagar North on a BJP ticket.
In the video that was circulated in several WhatsApp groups of political parties, Aniruddhsinh was seen appealing people of Jamnagar in general and voters of Rajput community in particular to vote for Congress on Jamnagar North seat. The election to the assembly seat is scheduled on December 1.
“Bipendrasinh Jadeja is contesting from Congress on Jamnagar North constituency. He is like my younger brother. I appeal to members of Rajput community to help him win with a high number of votes,” Aniruddhsinh says in the video. Aniruddhsinh could not be contacted.
Interestingly, Rivaba’s sister-in-law Naynaba is a member of Congress party and is in charge of assembly constituencies in Jamnagar. She is campaigning against Rivaba from the beginning.
A day before Rivaba’s name was announced for Jamnagar North, Naynaba had said: “BJP may lose this seat if party nominates a new face.” A few days back, Naynaba had accused Rivaba of using children in cricket uniforms during her campaign and had also raised a personal issue alleging that “Rivaba did not change her surname even six years after her marriage”.
