Cops hunt for Saran man who abandoned wife over grey hair & tried to marry another woman
PATNA: A man who rejected his young wife after noticing some grey hair on her head and tried to marry another woman at a local temple, fled in wedding attire after cops came calling.
Police said the wedding of Pankaj Shah, 28, a resident of Saran district, had been solemnized with Babita Devi, 25, from the same district in December 2020.
The couple had few happy moments until the silvery hair played the villain.
Strain accused her of hiding her real age. Babita was even forced to call her father and bring her Aadhaar card to prove her real age, but the man didn’t appear satisfied.
With quarrels becoming a part of their daily routine, the woman left for her parents’ home where she had been staying for the one year, police said.
The situation took a curious turn on Monday when her husband, accompanied with his family members and other wedding guests rushed to a local temple located in Nagara outpost area to marry another girl.
Somehow Babita came to know about the wedding preparations and hurriedly rushed to the spot with her family members. Witnesses said she was shocked to see her husband dressed in wedding attire and waiting for marriage and created scenes on the spot.
“I got information from local villagers that my husband was marrying another girl. So I rushed to the spot to stop the marriage rituals,” Babita told reporters, adding her husband abandoned her just after seeing some grey hair on her head.
She also promptly informed the local police about the development. However, by the time the police reached the spot, both the man and the bride had fled the scene.
“We instantly reached the spot on getting information but didn’t find the man or his bride in the crowd. Both had fled the scene. We have talked to the man’s family members and are trying to sort out the family dispute with the help of local panchayat representatives,” Nagara police outpost in-charge Shivnath Ram said on Tuesday.
