Delhi Police have registered an FIR against Joginder Singh, an AAP candidate for the December 4 MCD election from Ward-19 Swaroop Nagar, for flaunting a revolver, an official said on Wednesday. The police action came after a video went viral showing Singh, alias Bunty, flaunting the revolver while dancing with four other people in a room, the official said.

Countering AAP’s campaign on alleged mismanagement of garbage disposal and BJP-led corporation’s alleged failure to flatten landfill sites, East Delhi MP Gautam Gambhir on Tuesday said chief minister Arvind Kejriwal contributed little to solve the problem.

“He is talking about MCD and the Centre but has never told people what he and his government should have done to solve the problem. He should come out in the open and tell the public about that too,” said Gambhir.

Chief minister Arvind Kejriwal said on Tuesday that if AAP came to power in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, the residents’ welfare associations would be “empowered” and granted the status of “mini councillors”.Addressing a press conference on the December 4 civic polls, Kejriwal said his vision was “Janta ko Dilli ka malik banana (make citizens the master of Delhi).” He said, “I want to give a guarantee that AAP will launch a ‘Janta Chalalegi MCD’ scheme after being voted to power in the municipal corporation. We have often seen that people have to go to councillors for small works. People have to take the decision and MCD to implement it. In a way, RWAs, the bodies closest to the people, will be given the status of mini councillors.”

As the MCD campaign enters the last stage, BJP has asked its party workers to carry out a focused outreach by contacting the electorate who will vote for them and the fence-sitters who are yet to make up their mind.While the party’s star campaigners, including Union ministers and chief ministers of other states, are busy addressing corner meetings, padyatras and road shows, sources said ground-level workers would identify potential BJP voters in the last three-four days of the mass-contact programme and ensure that they reach the polling booth on December 4 and vote for the party.

The guarantees include solution for conversion and parking charges, creating parking facilities in each market in coordination with traders, ending the inspector raj and corruption, opening shops sealed in the past five years and ending the sealing drive, simplifying the licence-issuing and building plan-sanctioning processes, ensuring cleanliness in markets, rolling back all proposed hikes in licensing fees, and constructing women’s toilets in each market.

The traders’ wing of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Tuesday organised a door-to-door campaign at Hamilton Road, Kashmere Gate, apprising shopkeepers of its “10 guarantees” for the community and promising to fulfil them as soon as it gets to run the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD). READ MORE

With the municipal elections just a few days away, BJP intensified its campaign on Tuesday, with several Union ministers, chief ministers of party-governed states, and MPs and MLAs from different parts of the country reaching out to Delhiites through corner meetings, door-to-door campaigns and padyatras.

Thakur said that despite being in jail for six months, Jain was still a minister, which, he alleged, showed how corrupt and dishonest the AAP government was. “Why are you (Kejriwal) so helpless to sack Satyendar Jain? Why is he still a minister? I will tell you why. They fear that if he is sacked, Jain might reveal secrets, we all know about who,” he said. Touching on issues like pollution, the minister said AAP was in power in Punjab and Delhi, but could not stop stubble burning.

Ahead of the Delhi MCD election, AAP's trade wing on Tuesday announced '10 guarantees', including de-sealing of shops, resolving conversion and parking charges, for ease of doing business in the city.

AAP trade wing convenor Brijesh Goyal and president Subhash Khandelwal released the guarantee cards after organising a march in Kashmere Gate Market here.

Over five lakh pamphlets will be distributed announcing the guarantees in 50 major markets in the national capital.

Three former Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) legislators here on Tuesday joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ahead of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) elections scheduled to be held on December 4.

Surendra Singh, Raju Dingan and Chaudhary Fateh Singh -- the former AAP MLAs, joined the saffron party in presence of Delhi unit BJP president Adesh Gupta, party spokesperson Sambit Patra and former Delhi BJP president Vijay Goel.

The only demand of Delhiites in the civic elections is an MCD that will focus on keeping Delhi clean, senior AAP leader Manish Sisodia said on Tuesday. Addressing multiple street-corner meetings in Laxmi Nagar, Krishna Nagar and Gandhi Nagar, Sisodia said the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) had failed to perform its primary responsibility -- keeping the national capital clean.

"Delhi has taken its decision -- this time it will vote for a government (civic body) that will ensure the development of wards at a fast pace."The BJP was busy promoting extortion and making money from it. The public is upset with them and this time, in the MCD elections, the Aam Aadmi Party will come to power," he said.

AAP campaigned in trading areas, giving guarantees on a solution to the conversion and parking charges problem, creating parking facilities in each market in coordination with the traders, ending inspector raj and corruption, desealing the shops sealed in the past five years, simplifying the license issuing process, intensifying cleanliness in the markets, rolling back all hikes in licensing fees and installing women’s toilets in every market.
