Udhagamandalam: Even as the district has been receiving moderate rain for the past two days, the chilling cold and thick mist disturbed normal life in the district on Monday. The maximum temperature recorded in the district on Monday is 13C.
Aravindan, a tourist from Salem, said, “Thick mist covered the ghat section of the road between Burliar and
Ooty, making it difficult for us to navigate through the hairpin bends in the section.”
Another tourist, Velprakash from Kerala said, “With mist covering the hills, navigation through roads has become hazardous. Besides, chilling cold weather made it impossible to visit tourist spots.”
Loganathan, an Ooty resident, said, “Thick mist enveloping the hills during this period of the year is unusual. Chilling cold is also disturbing the daily routines.”
The district received an average of 6.71mm of rain for 24 hours ending 8.30am on Monday. While Yedapalli received the highest rainfall of 32mm, Coonoor and Kilkotagiri registered 22mm and 31mm respectively. Ooty recorded 3mm of rainfall.
