Maharashtra News Live Updates: HC adjourns hearing on ex-Maha minister Anil Deshmukh's bail plea till Dec 2

The coal ministry on Tuesday said an investor conclave will be held this week in Mumbai in a bid to encourage participation of bidders in the commercial auction of blocks. Coal Minister Pralhad Joshi will chair the conclave to be held on December 1. Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde will be the chief guest. (PTI)

Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) received a major setback as former MLA Krishna Hegde on Monday joined the Eknath Shinde faction. The development comes weeks after Shiv Sena MP Gajanan Kirtikar recently joined the Eknath Shinde camp. Eknath Shinde took oath as the Chief Minister of Maharashtra on June 30 earlier this year.

The Bombay High Court on Tuesday adjourned till December 2 the hearing on the bail plea of Maharashtra's former home minister Anil Deshmukh in a case of corruption and misuse of official position being probed by the Central Bureau of Investigation. A single bench of Justice M S Karnik could not begin hearing on the bail plea on Tuesday as Additional Solicitor General Anil Singh, appearing for the CBI, was not able to appear before the court as he was unwell. Deshmukh (73) had approached the HC after a special CBI court rejected his bail plea last month. He sought bail both on medical grounds and merits.

Central Railway is exploring the possibility of widening platform 5 at Dadar station to provide double discharge facility for Kalyan-bound fast local trains and help decongest platforms number 4 and 3. Double discharge platforms are similar to the ones at CSMT, where passengers can board and alight from both the sides of the train.

Maharashtra on Monday recorded 23 fresh Covid-19 cases, 34 recoveries and zero fatality. With new cases, the state's Covid-19 tally rose to 81,35,707 and the death toll to 1,48,406.
