BeMC conducts trial run of septage plant
Berhampur: The Berhampur Municipal Corporation (BeMC) on Monday conducted a trial run of the septage treatment plant (SeTP) at Sitalapalli.
The trial run will continue for a month before the plant starts functioning. The plant of 60,000lt per day capacity has been built with an investment of Rs 3.50 crore. This is the second such plant meant for treatment of sewage water before it is allowed to flow into water bodies in Berhampur. The first one was set up near Mohada about 120km from here around four years ago at Rs 2 crore.
“Besides BeMC’s command area, the new plant will also treat sewage water from the civic body’s adjoining villages,” BeMC commissioner J Sonal said. “The new plant has been set up to cater to the needs of the next three decades,” BeMC mayor Sanghamitra Dalai said, adding, “The new plant will produce compost from household sludge.”
