The portrayal of Captain Jack Sparrow in the first film, in 2003, made Depp a favourite with the audience. The Pirates franchise gained immense success with the subsequent sequels between 2003 and 2017. However, trouble began when Amber Heard, Johnny's ex-wife, brought charges of domestic violence against Johnny. As a result, Disney cut Depp from the franchise.

According to latest media reports, Disney's new project - the sixth installment in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise - is on hold, possibly due to star Johnny Depp's well publicised problems.

Some reports claims, however, that Disney has entirely dropped the planned revival of the series. Depp fans may be denied the opportunity to see their favourite star return to the the iconic series.

The portrayal of Captain Jack Sparrow in the first film, in 2003, made Depp a favourite with the audience. However, trouble began when Amber Heard, Johnny's ex-wife, brought charges of domestic violence against Johnny. As a result, Disney cut Depp from the franchise.

Disney reportedly dropped the sixth movie, apparently to stay clear of Johnny's controversies.

After Johnny won a lawsuit against Amber Heard (his ex-wife), reports of Disney going ahead with the project re-surfaced. However, with no director finalised yet, the sixth edition is uncertain at this stage.
