Mangaluru: Disabled kids, childcare centre inmates back on sports field
MANGALURU: After a two-year hiatus due to the pandemic, differently abled children and inmates from child care institutions are back on the sports field.
Various organisations have already organised, and plan to hold events exclusively for the differently abled, and inmates of child care institutions, as there was a complete lack of cultural and sports activities due to the Covid-19 pandemic, in the last two years.
Vasanth Shetty, a special educator and administrator at Saanidhya Residential School and Training Centre for the Mentally Challenged, said ever since the outbreak of the pandemic, all these children have had a tough time.
“Their regular learning and therapies went for a toss due to lockdowns, restrictions, and the fear of the spread of the novel coronavirus. They also missed their annual sports and cultural events, which were hosted by various associations, exclusively for differently abled children. However, after a gap of two years, they are getting a much needed break,’’ he said. On November 19, Rotary Midtown, Mysuru, organised a sports meet for differently abled children, where more than 400 children from 18 centres participated.
It was held after two years. In the first week of December, Karnataka State Association for Special Educators and Supportive Staff will organise ‘International Day of Disabled Persons’.
A mega event has been planned this time, as it was not possible to hold it in the last two years. It will include a procession and a fun-filled day for children.
Anirveda Resource Centre for Psychological Well-being also held a sports meet for its differently abled children inmates recently.
