THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The special investigation team, probing the 11-year-old missing case of a woman and her daughter, suspects that the duo might have been taken to the Gulf by a Kasaragod native, who was close to the accused.
The probe team has got clues in this regard and also issued a notice to Ibrahim, the Kasaragod native, to appear before the team on Monday.
The team is planning to question him alone and later along with other accused in the case.
“The Kasaragod-based man had contacted the accused in the case several times before and after the mother and daughter went missing. Ibrahim had also visited the house where the mother and daughter lived. It was almost at the same time when they went missing that Ibrahim moved to the Gulf. We have received some clues about his involvement in the case and probably they might have been taken to the Gulf by Ibrahim,” said the investigating officer.
Divya (30) of Divya Mandiram near Ooruttambalam at Velloorkonam and her daughter Gowri (2) went missing on August 18, 2011, after they were taken to Velankanni by Mahin Kannu, the prime accused in the case.
By concealing the fact that he was married and belonged to a different religion, Kannu started a relationship with Divya and when she became pregnant, he left for the Gulf. He came back after two years when the child turned 2.5 years and started living together at Ooruttambalam. It was during this period that Divya came to know that he was married and a Muslim.
It became an issue and the parents of Divya had a quarrel with Kannu. Following it, on August 18, 2011, Kannu took Divya and their daughter to Velankanni. They were not seen after that.
Earlier, a court here has rejected the request given by the probe team for a polygraph test of the accused. The consent of the accused is a must for granting permission for the test. The accused had cited health issues for denying permission for the test.
