Ambedkar, Gandhisuffered humiliation,created history: CM
Jaipur: A day after calling Sachin Pilot a ‘traitor’, Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Friday said Bhimrao Ambedkar and Mahatma Gandhi were ‘motivated’ by disrespect and humiliation to work for the country and its people.
If Ambedkar had not suffered humiliation, he would not have become a social reformer and created history by drafting the Constitution, he said. Similarly, Mahatma Gandhi too was ‘inspired’ by the racial discrimination he faced in South Africa to take plunge into India’s freedom struggle.
Gehlot was speaking at a state-level convention of the Rajasthan Shiksha Sangh (Ambedkar) in Jaipur.
“Ambedkar enshrined the right to equality for all countrymen in the Constitution. Women got the right to vote whereas in other democracies, it took much longer. Historically, backward classes too got the right to reservation because of him,” the CM said. Social evil such as untouchability was declared a crime by the Constitution, he said.
