Gurugram: Lok Adalat to take up 50,000 cases today

GURUGRAM: To reduce the pendency of cases in courts, a National Lok Adalat is being organised in the city on Saturday wherein around 50,000 cases related to traffic challan, civil cases, bank recovery, matrimonial disputes, cheque bounces, labourer issue and other cases will be listed for disposal.
National Lok Adalat is being organised by the district legal service authority under the guidance of Justice Augustine George Masih of Punjab and Haryana High Court, who is also the chairman of State Legal Service Authority, along with district and session judge S P Singh, who is also the head of DLSA.
Chief judicial magistrate and secretary of DLSA Lalita Patwardhan said for the disposal of 50,000 cases around 20 benches have been constituted. "Out of these, eight benches will be for traffic challan issues, four for cheque bounce cases, three for cases related to Motor Vehicle Act, two benches will be for labourer cases and one bench for family issues. One bench will be for the pre-litigation issues," she said.
Besides, for resolution of revenue (land) related cases special courts will be organised at revenue courts where SDM and tehsildar will hear the cases. Around 3.46 lakh cases, including 45,245 civil cases and 3.01 lakh criminal cases, are pending before the district court. More than 72% of pending cases are less than 3 years old. Around 6.37% of cases are pending from more than 5 years and 2.95% of cases pending for more than 10 years.
