Following firing by the Assam Police that left five civilians of Meghalaya and an Assam forest guard dead in West Jaintia Hills district, pressure groups in Meghalaya on Saturday staged a protest outside the residence of chief minister, Conrad K. Sangma.

Pressure groups in Meghalaya under the “Save Hynniewtrep Mission” burnt the effigies of Union Home Minister, Amit Shah, Chief Minister, Conrad K. Sangma and Home Minister, Lahkmen Rymbui. They alleged that Centre and government of Assam and Meghalaya have failed to resolve long pending border disputes and voiced against the CBI inquiry.

Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) general secretary, Roy Kupar Synrem Union Home minister Amit Shah stated all these boundary disputes will be resolved when India celebrates its 75th years of its independence.

November 22 clash between Assam Police and civilians near a village along the border with Meghalaya that left six people dead and several injured.

Meghalaya cabinet delegation led by Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma met Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Delhi on Thursday and pointed out that the root cause of the incident is the disputed interstate borders. Meghalaya government has sought a probe by the CBI or NIA. Union Home minister, Amit Shah assured the Meghalaya ministers delegation government of India will conduct CBI inquiry into the incident.

Meanwhile vehicles movement from Assam to Meghalaya are still suspended. Students and people from Assam staying in Meghalaya are rushing back. They alleged that there is no electricity and there is random arson and many people are targeted by protestors.
