Women’s movement is all but dead in state: Odanadi founder
Mysuru: Advising girls to handle their freedom with responsibility given that crime against women is on the rise, Mysuru-based Odanadi Seva Samsthe founder KV Stanly on Friday said women’s movement in the state is all but dead.
“Though there is a sharp rise in crime against women and children, women activists are not raising their voice,” he said at Maharani’s Science College after inaugurating the oath taking ceremony of students and class representatives.
He wanted women activists to fight against human trafficking besides stopping exploitation of the fairer sex. He said Odanadi Seva Samsthe has so far rescued over 13,000 girls from human trafficking and rehabilitated them to lead a dignified life.
He advised women to think what is right and wrong and to respect parents and elders and to walk on righteous path in society.
The NGO’s founder-director M Parashurama wanted the education system to be based on values, and universities must build relationships. He said they have received threat calls and bribe calls to stop their fight against influential persons. “But we are fighting for the girls,” he said.
Principal D Ravi, cultural committee convener P Shivakumar, treasurer Deepa, R Hebbar were among those present.
