Bokaro: The Jharkhand Industrial Area Development Authority (JIADA) has moved a proposal to acquire 149 acres of land for setting up new industrial units in Bokaro, Dhanbad and Giridih districts.
Kirtishree G, the regional director of JIADA, said, “Efforts are being undertaken for acquiring land parcels in Dhanbad and Bokaro. That apart, over 19 industrial units have been issued show-cause notices asking them to explain why their units are closed for several years. They have been asked to explain their stand by November 21 or else their lease will be cancelled within a month.”
Another JIADA official said, “The proposal will be put up before the cabinet and after its approval, it will be transferred to the industries department. Over 100 new industries can be established in the plots identified in both districts.” JIADA officials also said over 86 acres of land in East Tundi and Kaliyasol in Dhanbad have been identified alongside 63 acres at Ghatiyali in Chas of Bokaro district for the purpose. While a proposal to acquire land in Dhanbad has already been sent to the state government, proposals are being drafted for the Bokaro land parcel, the officials said.
Notably, JIADA had earlier identified 72 industrial units which had come up on leased land parcels but were non-functional for many years. Of them, 70 land parcels have been re-allotted to new investors to set up their units in the past two years, the officials said.
The Bokaro Industrial Area Development Authority (BIADA), which is under the JIADA, was set up by the erstwhile Bihar government in 1974. It holds a total land parcel of 1,471 acres across Dhanbad, Bokaro and Giridih districts and houses over 486 industrial units which operate on a long-term lease basis.
Of the total, the Balidih industrial area in Bokaro holds over 1,235 acres of land alone and houses over 375 industrial units.
A majority of these industrial units are Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) which are dependent on the Bokaro Steel Plant (BSL) for their work orders.
