Pune: Fake cop held on charge of cheating people

PUNE: Yerawada resident Pramod Balu Dhere (30) was arrested late on Wednesday night on the charge of wooing people of Koregaon Park, Yerawada and adjoining areas into investment deals and refusing to return their money claiming that he was a policeman.
Senior inspector Ganesh Mane of the city police crime branch and his team recovered khaki trousers, a car with “police” sticker, police canes, whistles and other items from him. Besides a complaint of cheating a Yerawada businessman (50) of Rs21,500 in an investment deal, police received five more complaint applications.
The Yerawada businessman lodged the complaint on Wednesday, stating that he met Dhere in 2012. The latter had pitched to him to invest in a company and get a double return in five years. The businessman invested Rs21,500 with Dhere. His wife met Dhere five years later and sought the returns, but he refused to return the money claiming that that he was a policeman.
