Varun Dhawan’s supernatural comedy horror movie ‘Bhediya’ finally hit the theatres today (November 25). Despite positive WOM (word of mouth) and a great overall response to the trailers and songs, the advance booking figures for this desi werewolf flick remains poor according to several reports.
According to a report by Koimoi.com, the closing numbers of day 1 advance booking for ‘Bhediya’ is unexpectedly low, at only Rs 1.85 crore gross. This makes the Varun Dhawan-Kriti Sanon starrer completely dependent on the walk-ins of today. Although the movie has sold most of its tickets for the 3D version, trade analysts are not too confident that the sales will be a huge game-changer for its overall advance booking figures.
Other BO reporting portals like Box Office India also confirmed ‘Bhediya’s slow start at the box office. Even in major cities where the movie was expected to score high, the film did not fare well. Box-office tracking portal Box Office Pan India took to Twitter to share ‘Bhediya’s box office report and revealed that the first-day advance sales of the movie at Tier 1 cities like Mumbai and Delhi were just Rs 38 lakh and Rs 39 lakh respectively. The first-day advance booking (gross) at Book My Show was just Rs 1.94 crore over 3762 show screens.
A major reason behind the movie’s slow start at the box office is undoubtedly the stupendously successful ‘Drishyam 2’. The Ajay Devgn-Tabu starrer is continuing its dream run at the box office even and shows no signs of slowing down. According to a report by Koimoi.com, the thriller drama entered the Rs 100 crore club within a week of its release.
Directed by Amar Kaushik (of ‘Stree’ and ‘Bala’ fame), the movie revolves around a young road construction contractor Bhaskar (played by Varun Dhawan) who gets bitten by a wolf and transforms into a werewolf every full moon night.
