Mysuru: In the wake of the assistant executive engineer of the National Highways’ Authority of India (NHAI) seeking permission from the forest department for felling 241 trees of various species on both sides of the stretch of Hinkal Road from St Joseph’s College to the point where it meets Mysuru-Hunsur Road, the forest department has invited objections from the public. The NHAI has sought permission to fell the trees to widen the stretch of the road. To that end, the forest department has scheduled a meeting to listen to grievances from the public on November 28 at 11am at Santhemala in Hootagalli.
People can file their objections on or before November 28, even doing so in person at the meeting, or have their concerns relayed to the forest deartment by post, by writing to the office of the assistant conservator of forests, Aranya Bhavan, Ashokapuram, Mysuru. The Karnataka Tree Conservation Act mandates convening a public meeting if more than 50 trees are proposed for felling. tnn
