Coimbatore: Collector G S Sameeran and corporation commissioner M Prathap released the poster and mascot for the 15th edition of Coimbatore Vizha at the Valankulam bund on Thursday, the Coimbatore Day.
The annual event, celebrated to mark the formation of Coimbatore district on November 24, 1804, is scheduled between January 4 and 8 next year. Several organisations will come together to conduct events including rallies, science festivals, hackathons, music shows, marathons, art sessions and games.
The celebration will start with Fountain Dreams, Coimbatore’s first synchronized water fountain show spread over a kilometre, at Valankulam lake, a member of the organising team said. “It will be a visual and musical treat. For the third time in Coimbatore, we will be celebrating our lakes after the successful Royal Boat Show and Symphony by the Lake laser show in the previous years. This edition is expected to bring happiness and showcase one of the best-ever fountain shows in South India for thousands of Coimbatoreans,” he told TOI.
The marathon will be conducted in two categories 5km and 10 km along with a special 2.5km walk for senior citizens. Cyclothon, Art Street, Agri Next, Exotic Car Rally, Chef’s Plate, Isai Mazhai, The Pitch, parasports, special sports, cultural events, Chettinadu Thiruvizha, Unavavu Sangamam and My Green Kovai will also be held.
‘Coimbatore’s Got Talent’ will give a platform for people to showcase their talents. In a bid to make the event inclusive, paralympic sports will be conducted.
The event will have a village festival theme, the collector said.
The commissioner honoured the participants of Art Street, who attended the 14th edition of the event.
