Leak in treatment plant pipeline leads to flooding on Basai Road
Gurgaon: Water leakage from the master supply line of Basai water treatment plant has left the entire Basai Road inundated for the past three days. The road, which is riddled with potholes, has become a nightmare for those riding bikes and travelling in small four wheelers are facing a hard time while navigating through the flooded road.
Many two-wheeler riders have fallen and suffered injuries in the last three days, residents claimed.
Residents said, this road connects Gurgaon with Jhajjar, Farrukhnagar, Bhiwani and Rohtak, but no government agency is ready to fix the road.
While Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) claims they were responsible for the water pipeline and had fixed the leakage on Wednesday, PWD says a portion of the road falls under their jurisdiction while the rest comes under NHAI. The deputy commissioner said he has directed the PWD to take some measures to fill the potholes.
On Wednesday, residents stated that though the leakage in the pipeline has been fixed but the waterlogging on the road continues to trouble the commuters.
Residents pointed out that the problem started three days back when leakage in the master water supply line from Basai water treatment plant, which supplies water to several parts of Gurgaon, led to waterlogging. With no visibility of the road surface vehicles had a difficult time to cross the small stretch of around 500 metre — from Basai flyover to Dwarka Expressway.
“The road was already in bad condition and with the waterlogging it became dangerous for commuters. Small vehicles were getting stuck in the potholes and in some cases two-wheeler riders were falling down and getting hurt,” said Prem Yadav, resident of Basai.
The road which connects Gurgaon to Jhajjar, Rohtak, Bhiwani and other areas witness heavy flow of traffic. “The road is an entry and exit point for Gurgaon city but despite this no one has taken any pain to improve the condition of the road,” said Suresh Kumar, another resident.
Chief engineer of GMDA Rajesh Bansal said the road is not in their jurisdiction. “Water supply line is in our jurisdiction and we have fixed the leakage on Wednesday,” said Bansal.
A PWD official said only a portion of the stretch is under their jurisdiction while the remaining part is under NHAI. The official had no explanation why no effort was taken to repair the road, which has been in bad condition for a long time.
Deputy commissioner of Gurgaon Nishant Yadav said the matter has been brought to his notice and he has asked the PWD official to fill the potholes on immediate basis to level the road.
“PWD officials have been asked to level the road by filling the potholes,” said Yadav.
