ALWAR/JAIPUR: Panic prevailed at Umred village in Bharatpur district when gunman of the Member of Parliament (MP) from Bharatpur Ranjita Koli opened fire on his neighbours killing a 60-year-old woman and injuring her 40-yearold son.
Police said that the reasons behind the firing were yet to be known. Within some minutes after the incident the accused police constable surrendered before the police.
According to police, the accused identified as Nitesh was on leave on Thursday and had gone to his native village at Bharatpur. He reached at 5 pm. “The victim Sahib Singh wasplaying cards with his friends at his home at 6 pm when Nitesh entered and fired seven rounds. During the firing the Jamuna Devi mother of Sahib Singh also came and sustained bullet injury on the n eck,” said a senior police officer of Bharatpur district on Thurs-day.
Both the injured were r ushed to the district hospital at Bharatpur where Jamuna Devi succumbed while her son Sahib Singh was rushed to Jaipur for further treatment due to his critical injuries. Jamuna Devi got critical bullet injury on her neck and her son has got in juries on her abdominal part.
Shyam Singh, superintendent of police, said, “So far investigations suggested that the gunman was having a suspicion that his wife had an illicit relatio nship with Sahib Singh. He has surrendered himself. We will interrogate him to find what triggered him to open firing on his neighbours. ”
