Jamshedpur: Over a dozen school children were injured when their school bus overturned at Bhalopahad area in Bandwan, West
Bengal, bordering Jharkhand, on Wednesday.
Some of the injured were brought to the government-run Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College and Hospital (MGMMCH) in Sakchi for treatment.
"Five students have received serious injuries," said Kamal Chakravarti, official of the Bhalopahadi government-aided school.
Some of the injured are admitted to a private hospital in Purulia.
Chakravarti said the bus lost control and overturned at a curve while it was on way to the school. “A cyclist suddenly came in front of the bus because of which the driver was forced to apply brakes and the mishap happened,” he said.
“A 10-feet ditch was close to the accident site, had the bus fell into it, the mishap would have been more serious," he added.
