Fake call centre racket cheating Americans busted
Panaji: Crime branch of Goa police on Thursday arrested six persons from Gujarat for allegedly cheating US nationals on the pretext of approving their loans, medical billing advances, etc, through a fake call centre.
Superintendent of police (SP) crime branch Nidhin Valsan said that the accused had set up a call centre at Ribandar.
Valsan said that there is one more accused in the case who works in a bank in Gujarat and used to provide information to the other accused, who later would make the phone calls to US nationals.
Police said that they had received information about the fake call centre that was in operation for many days. Accordingly, police maintained surveillance on the accused.
Police said all the victims are US nationals, and the exact defrauded amount is yet to be ascertained.
Police have arrested Akash Pancholi, 28, Thremho, 23, Sanam Bathari, 23, Anand Sengyung, 26, Lairim Hojai, 19, and Hemring Girisa, 22, all residents of Ahmedabad.
Police said that six laptops along with accessories and mobile phones, all worth Rs 10 lakh, have been seized.
