Ranchi: Governor Ramesh Bais has issued a show cause notice to Kamini Kumar for the irregularities that took place during her tenure as the acting vice-chancellor (VC) of the Ranchi University (RU).
Kumar served as the acting VC after the retirement of Dr Ramesh Pandey. Dr Ajit Kumar Sinha who took over as the VC last June drew the attention of Raj Bhawan towards the irregularities during Kumar’s tenure. After reviewing the allegations the governor’s office prima facie found some of the allegations to be true and transferred Kumar, who was serving as RU pro-VC till recently, to the Kolhan University. The step was taken to ensure an impartial investigation into the allegations.
In the show cause the Governor mentioned that 36 employees of third and the fourth grade were regularized during Kumar’s tenure but the basis for taking the step is not clear. He mentioned that the acting VC did not have the powers to take the decision.
The Governor said that an order was issued for recovery of the amount illegally paid to Ranchi Mahila College but the direction was not followed.
The Governor further stated that after notification for appointment of new VC, Kumar had signed a memorandum of understanding with the Vigyan Prasar Sansthan adding the work should have been done by registrar.
The Governor stated that Kumar should have taken action in connection with the irregularities amounting to Rs 109 crore in RU. He has also directed for registering of FIR against the officials and employees responsible for misplacing the file concerning the case. The Governor has asked Kumar to give her reply within 15 days.
