LUDHIANA: A day after their arrest in the alleged foodgrain scam, district food supply controllers (DFSCs) Sukhwinder Singh Gill and Harveen Kaur were sent to 2-day VB remand.
The Vigilance Bureau (Ludhiana range) had sought remand alleging that in connivance of both DFSCs, the rice shellers had smuggled foodgrain from other states on cheaper price and sold it on higher price in Punjab. The VB also said they have to verify the allegations of bribe.
Officials claimed that contractor Telu Ram had claimed that he had given Rs 2 lakh bribe and an iPhone to DFSC Gill and Rs 3 lakh to DFSC Harveen Kaur for seeking favour, however both the DFSCs have denied the allegations. Gill had claimed that the contractor had offered him bribe, but he did not accept it.
The bureau on Tuesday had arrested these accused who were members/conveners of district tender committee at the time of allotment of above-said tenders. They along with other members of committee were responsible to check relevant documents attached with tenders, including list of transport vehicles, but they had not verified the registration numbers of vehicles intentionally as registration number of scooters, motorcycles etc were mentioned in the attached list of vehicles. Despite submission of wrong documents, the above said officers have allotted tenders to their favourite persons/contractors by accepting bribe money from them, the bureau added.
Senior superintendent of police, Vigilance Bureau, Ludhiana Range, Ravinder Pal Singh Sandhu said the court has sent both DFSCs in 2-day remand.
Proclamation orders
SSP Sandhu said on Wednesday, the VB pasted proclamation orders at the residence of Bharat Bhushan Ashu's PA Inderjit Singh Indi and Pankaj Meenu Malhotra
